Red Cedar Speedway
Postpones Opener
By Ed Reichert
Menomonie WI – Randy Buss,
the President of the Red Cedar Racing Association, has
announced that the 2008 season opener at the Red Cedar
Speedway, scheduled for April 11th, has been
postponed.
While not totally unexpected,
there was the slimmest of hopes that the weather would warm
up and the racing surface dry out sufficiently that the
opener could take place. That was until Monday’s snowstorm
put the final nail in the coffin.
“You can’t even see the race
track right now, much less race on it”, stated Buss on
Monday night.” We’re going to need some warm weather to help
dry out the track and the scheduled opener is less than two
weeks away. It just isn’t going to happen.”
So, with everything moved
back one week, hopefully the 2008 dirt track season at the
Dunn Co. Rec Park will commence on Friday night, April 18th
.
Four classes of cars, all
racing under the WISSOTA sanctioning banner will compete on
opening night including the powerful late models, open wheel
modifieds and Midwest modifieds, super stocks in addition to
the Red Cedar pure stocks.
The first race is scheduled
to take the green flag at 7 p.m. for the thirty fifth
straight year of racing at the Dunn Co. oval.
The Red Cedar Speedway is
located on Menomonie’s east side on Highway 12 at the Rec
Park. For more information on the Red Cedar Speedway, log on
