Same Old Wet Story at Red
Cedar Speedway
By Ed Reichert
Menomonie WI – Once again it was
the same song, different verse for the Red Cedar Speedway. For
the third straight time, the season opener planned for Friday,
April 25th has been postponed due to heavy rains and
wet grounds. Track crews had been unable to get on the track
until Wednesday but that was followed by an all day rain on
Thursday and there was absolutely no way the track would have
been in racing condition by Friday. With that in mind, track
officials pulled the plug on Thursday with the hopes that next
week things will be much dryer.
The season opener is now
scheduled for Friday, May 2nd at 7 p.m. The May
opener will now be the latest start to the racing in a number of
years at Red Cedar, but track officials hope that once the
season gets started, it will be smooth sailing after that.
Featured this year will be four
classes of cars sanctioned by the WISSOTA racing organization
including late models, modifieds, Midwest modifieds and super
stocks along with the Red Cedar pure stocks.
Along with the lineup of regular
racing events, the speedway will host a two day Rumble Series
event for late models on July 3rd and 4th
, the IRA sprint cars on August 22nd and the year
ending 29th annual Punky Manor Challenge of Champions
on September 19th and 20th .
