By Ed Reichert

Menomonie WI – The Rumble Dirt Series for WISSOTA Late Models comes to the Red Cedar Speedway in Menomonie on Thursday, July 3 and Friday, July 4.

The Rumble Series is in its first year of existence and is the highest paying of the traveling series for WISSOTA Late Models. It is the brainchild of Terry Voeltz, president of T’s Promotions from Aberdeen South Dakota as well as being the current WISSOTA Promoters Association president.

The Rumble at Red Cedar will pay the Late Model winner a cool $5,000 with each starter of the feature race earning at least $400. WISSOTA sanctioned Super Stocks, Midwest Modifieds and Pure Stocks will also be racing during the two night show.

So far this year five Rumble Series races have been held in Wisconsin, Minnesota, North Dakota and Manitoba with others scheduled in North Dakota and Montana before the finale is held on August 8-9 in Rice Lake. Winners so far include Jimmy Mars from Menomonie and John Kaanta from Elk Mound as well as New Richmond’s Pat Doar, Bonduel’s A.J. Diemel and Lance Matthees of Winona Mn. The average car count for the races run so far this year is around fourty with competitors from the Dakotas, Minnesota and Wisconsin and two Canadian Provinces already competing.

The format for the weekend will see heat races and dashes for the Late Models, Super Stocks and Midwest Modifieds on Thursday plus a full program of Red Cedar Pure Stocks. On Friday there will be last chance races in all three WISSOTA classes plus the three big feature events and another full show for the Pure Stocks.

Racing both nights begins at 7 p.m. with the grandstands opening at 5 p.m and the pit area at 4 p.m. The Super Stocks will be racing for a top prize of $600 with the Midwest Modified winner going home with $400.

Admission prices are $15 for adults on Thursday and $20 on Friday while students will be admitted for $7 with all kids twelve years old and under admitted absolutely free with a paid adult.

The speedway is going all out to make this a pleasurable weekend for visitors. Camping will be available both nights right at the Dunn Co. Rec Park with full shower and restroom facilities on the grounds. There will be a DJ provided on Thursday night and the city of Menomonie has a large celebration going on also on July 4th with many activities in conjunction with that event. There is also a possibility that the speedway may have a fireworks display on Thursday night also.

WISSOTA’s biggest racing stars will be on hand as records are sure to be set during this exiting two days of racing. For more information on this race, contact Voeltz at 605-216-7223 or visit their website, www.rumbledirtseries.com  or check out the Red Cedar website at www.redcedarracing.com
